The Sustainable Future of Construction Materials in Texas?

McCar Companies is making an impact in the construction materials industry in Central Texas. Their influence is evident in roads, bridges, buildings, and beyond with the help of powerful equipment such as a 1600 Eagle Crusher, Cedarapids LJ-TSV horizontal screener, Powerscreen Warrior 1800 scalping screen, Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X inclined screen, and numerous MGL Engineering conveyors, all supplied by Powerscreen Texas.

A Legacy of Excellence

Starting as a modest family operation, McCar Companies had one straightforward goal: to provide builders and contractors across Texas with high-quality materials needed to build their communities. As time has gone on, McCar has grown the business by investing in the latest machinery to keep ahead of evolving demands and further expanding their product range with consistent, high-quality materials.

Today, McCar Companies is known for providing a wide range of limestone aggregates at a rapidly increasing volume. This includes utility stone, road base, flex base, concrete sand, and other materials from their rich quarry. With a focus on customer service and a deep understanding of the local market, McCar has become a trusted partner for projects of all sizes with materials of all sizes.

McCar operates various rock crushers, screeners and stackers supplied by Powerscreen Texas in their production process, each with unique capabilities that allow McCar to produce a diverse product range. Their Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X inclined screener is used to create their 1-inch and 3/8-inch clean utility stones, while their Warrior 1800 scalping screener is used to produce their 3” x 5” riprap as well as their TXDOT Item 247 flex base, grades 1-5.

Despite the required production rates growing significantly for McCar due to an increase in customer demand, both the Chieftain 2100X and Warrior 1800 are more than up to the challenge of achieving this increase in output, with both capable of achieving up to 661 US tph. The 2100X, best suited for fine screening applications, can easily produce large volumes of high-specification products, even at small sizes. The heavy-duty and versatile Warrior 1800 scalping screening is the ideal match for taking on the larger material, giving a constant product whilst offering the team excellent reliability and durability as the machine copes with the challenging demands of the McCar Georgetown pit.

Commitment to Sustainability

In an industry that will always make an environmental impact, McCar has taken bold steps to prioritize sustainability in their operations. McCar’s commitment to reducing their carbon footprint is evident in every aspect of their operations. From sourcing raw materials to influencing buying decisions for the machinery they use in the crushing and screening process, their environmental efforts have been focused on sustainability.

The main production area of their Georgetown, TX, location utilizes an electric-powered Cedarapids LJ-TSV horizontal screener. With the use of the LJ-TSV screener, McCar’s carbon footprint is minimized exponentially. McCar will soon be phasing out the use of all diesel-powered machines to make the complete switch to electric-powered machines supplied by Powerscreen Texas, further positively impacting the environment by slashing emissions and reducing fuel consumption.

A People-Centric Approach

The relationship between McCar Companies and Powerscreen Texas was built on a strong foundation of trust and stewardship. Peter Nunez, President and CEO of McCar Companies, attended ConExpo 2020 hungry for knowledge in the mining and crushing sectors. Nunez found himself at the Powerscreen Texas booth and had initial discussions with Powerscreen Texas President, Sam McNabb.

Peter eagerly absorbed as much information as possible about the various machines and the crushing and screening industry. Soon after he returned to Texas, he met with the Powerscreen Texas team to further detail his production and expansion goals. This allowed the Powerscreen Texas team to educate, equip, and train McCar’s staff on all things crushing and screening. Freshly equipped with the machinery needed to begin operations, McCar’s team quickly evolved into the large company it is today.

Peter said, “We are here to serve our surrounding community in both the residential and commercial sectors. With the versatility of the machines that we’ve purchased from Powerscreen Texas, we can meet the demands of our customers and even create products for their needs that we weren’t previously able to produce.”

Strategic Partners

Cory Farris, COO of McCar Companies, stated, “We would not be where we are today if it wasn’t for our relationship with Powerscreen Texas. They are not just a supplier of our machines; they truly are partners in business. They are experts in what they do, and we tend to be very successful when we take their advice in mining and crushing.”

The main focal point from Powerscreen Texas’s view was to educate and walk with McCar Companies as they evolve in the industry. Since 2020, the company has seen tremendous growth, which requires onboarding new equipment to keep up with buyer demands. Powerscreen Texas goes beyond merely selling equipment; they ensure proper training is done for all new operators and keep up with any maintenance necessary to guarantee the uptime and longevity of their machines.

A Vision for the Future

As McCar Companies looks to the future, their vision is clear: to continue leading the way in the construction materials industry while prioritizing sustainability, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Moreover, McCar Companies is committed to contributing to the development of Texas. As the state’s population and economy continue to grow, the demand for high-quality construction materials is expected to rise. By utilizing the equipment and training supplied by Powerscreen Texas, McCar Companies is well-positioned to meet this demand, ensuring that Texas’ infrastructure remains strong and resilient for future generations.
